A Dubai Love Story

Dubai’s a place I love, and a place that I’m very happy to call home. But it wasn’t always like this. When I first moved here from Thailand five and a half years ago, I wasn’t exactly thrilled at the prospect. I’d lived in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Tokyo and southern Mexico, and the prospect of moving to Dubai just didn’t seem quite so exciting after these places. People have a habit of writing off Dubai, saying there’s no culture or history. But to be frank, these people really don’t know what they’re talking about, and have probably never spent much time here. You just need to scratch the surface to see that it isn’t true. You’ll certainly find history (how about the ruins of a 1,000-year-old caravanserai in the middle of the city?) and culture (museums, galleries, opera, calligraffiti, anyone?), but also nature, the desert, beaches, and some of the most cutting-edge architecture in the world. Dubai Tourism recently asked me to share my personal Dubai story through video, and it turned into a bit of a love story, because I did end up falling for this place, and no one was more surprised about that than me. Take a look at my video below to see more about this city and its Untold Stories.
